In 1991 he started Alpine Electric as a one-man show. As projects grew in size and scope, he assembled and educated a team of professionals with the goal of providing exceptional quality, and attention to detail.

This tradition continues today with new owner Mark Buzzard, and sister company Liberty Bell Smart Home. Always striving to further our education in the latest lighting design, window shading, and home control systems, all while maintaining an unsurpassed level of workmanship, value, and personal service.

Smart Home Integrator Mark Buzzard, with Rancho Cordova and Truckee based Liberty Bell Smart Home, has acquired Alpine Electric, Electrical Contractors, based in Truckee, CA.

Founded in 1991, Alpine Electric and its licensed electricians offer a variety of electrical services with a specialty in high end residential new construction and remodel projects. Liberty Bell Smart Home offers peace of mind for the homeowner through fire and alarm monitoring, surveillance, and alerts as well as audio/video smart home theater and media, indoors and outdoors. They also specialize in residential, luxury, and other high end projects. This acquisition will allow both companies to collaborate, and to streamline resources and services throughout the Tahoe region of California & Nevada.

Alpine Electric, founded in 1991 and purchased in 2022 by Mark Buzzard, will continue to operate under the Alpine Electric brand. Paul McMurchie, Alpine Electric president, is retiring. All current Alpine Electric staff are remaining in their individual roles to grow the company and expand into new markets.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with Mark and his team,” Alpine founder and retiring president Paul McMurchie said in a statement. “The strengths of our companies coming together has diversified our service offerings and provides a competitive advantage that will help us better serve our customers. This is a move designed to ensure Alpine Electric’s success and longevity.”

Alpine Electric will continue to operate out of Truckee while Buzzard will assume the role of president, managing both companies with a total of 35 employees between each. Together, these companies will provide innovative and efficient security, electrical, and smart home design with leading edge technology interface from start to finish for architects, builders, and clients.

Finally, my hope is that you will continue to work with Mark at Liberty Smart Home and Alpine Electric. I know that he is eager to continue the legacy of exceptional quality and customer service that we have all built over the years. I am confident that he will have great success in building and expanding the business and earning your trust in the coming years. Again, thank you all for your business and support over the years!

“This is an opportunity to strengthen our relationships with existing customers and expand into fun and exciting new projects,” Buzzard said in a statement. “I’m proud of the great work and reputations of both companies, and combining our teams is a smart way to capitalize on our strengths and offer more for our clients.”

A Letter From Paul McMurchie, Founder of Alpine Electric

Hello All

Just over thirty years ago I was blessed to be able to begin doing business in the Tahoe area under the name of Alpine Electric. Over the years things have changed quite a bit and thanks to you all we have had a good amount of success, built prosperous relationships, and most of all gained a lot of great friends. I want to thank you for all of your help, loyalty, and friendship!

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that Alpine Electric is in the process of being acquired by Mark Buzzard who is the owner of Liberty Bell Smart Home in Rancho Cordova as well as his new office in Truckee. Mark's vision is to take Alpine Electric to the next level by being able to offer a complete wiring solution for new homes, service, and other projects. Liberty Bell Smart Home has been in the business of installing security systems, security monitoring, audio visual systems, and creating smart home integration for over 41 years. The plan is for the two businesses to remain autonomous in order to keep the Alpine Electric brand and its product offerings intact as they have been for many years.

Mark is currently building a showroom right in downtown Truckee in the Capitol Building at 10072 Commercial Row. There will be sales space and multiple demo areas including a large state of the art home theater installation. He is building a Control4 Certified showroom and will also be featuring the Lutron line of lighting, lighting control, and shading solutions. We are all thrilled about the opportunities here and all the ways that the operation will be improved including:

  • The new Liberty Bell showroom will be fundamental to the success of the two companies. It is Mark's desire to host "Red Carpet" events with our suppliers and manufacturers to familiarize the local business community with the products that we offer.
  • The showroom presents an opportunity for general contractors, interior designers, architects, and other specifiers to experience our product offerings and show them to their clients. The plan is to showcase products from Control4, Lutron lighting, Lutron Shading Systems, Lucifer Lighting, and many more.
  • Liberty Bell has a formidable team of over 25 highly skilled installers at the Rancho Cordova location which could potentially help with Alpine's manpower challenges and vice versa. The ability to beef up either company's personnel assets will be a game changer.

Going forward, the plan is for the entire Alpine Electric team to remain on board as they have been for a number of years. They are excited about the diversification possibilities and new market opportunities. There will be no immediate changes in personnel or operations other than I will be resigning my position as president and Mark will take over all operations. It is our desire that Mark will continue to work with you in the same ways that I have worked with you.

Bev Vallance has been my bookkeeper and now office manager for many years. She is proficient at all phases of office operations at Alpine Electric and is infinitely familiar with our processes and our mission.

Best, Paul

Liberty Bell Smart Home Showroom Opening in historic theater of the Capitol Building in downtown Truckee

A new iteration of Truckee’s historic theater upstairs in the Capitol Building is once again open to the public. After months of careful renovation, Mark Buzzard, CEO of Liberty Bell Smart Home and Alpine Electric, announces the opening of the showroom and theater to the public.

The theater’s history reaches back to 1870 when the Capitol building was built with Hurd’s Saloon downstairs and live entertainment on stage upstairs. After the turn of the century, silent films were shown as well as live stage productions through the 1970s.

The new Liberty Bell Smart Home showroom features innovative and efficient security, electrical, and smart home design for architects, builders, and clients. The theater renovation includes additional seating and is available to host film, art and literary performances.

“Offering this historic space as a gathering venue for town community events is an opportunity to strengthen our relationships with existing customers and expand into exciting new projects,” Buzzard said in a statement.

Liberty Bell Smart Home and Alpine Electric creates peace of mind for the homeowner through fire and alarm monitoring, surveillance and alerts as well as audio video smart home theater and media, indoors and outdoors.
